3.
As you mark a kanji to play with today in your progress mapper, see if you can recall the right stroke order.

4.
For each kanji, take time to visualize the story with as much colour as you can muster. Use a technique most suited to your learning type.  In this case for example say you are learning ‘six’ 六 (mutsu, roku, Glyph No 6):

  • If you are a visual learner, exaggerate the rocks in your mind and see the dogs maybe soaking kanji as they shake themselves dry- whatever you like, just take 10-20 seconds to focus all your imagination on the story working with people and events which you know.
  • If you respond to sound, try vocalizing the story, calling the mutts by whatever dog-name is your favourite, and telling them to get off the rocks.
  • If you are a physical learner, try acting act out the scenario, drawing a huge imaginary kanji with big arm movements, pulling the dogs lead or whatever gesticulation works for you.
  • And so on. Remember to include all the main components; for example in ‘red’赤 you might see a sword刀 crashing down from the heavens above, splitting分 the ground土 beneath you and red lava oozing out around you.

Of course these techniques should be whispered out of earshot of others, unless you are an ‘interpersonal’ type with another ‘interpersonal’ type.

5.
Read the cue phrase while holding an exaggerated image of the kanji in your minds eye, and focus on each of the glyph elements highlighted in the cue phrase and story

6.
Voice the ‘half-kana’ phrase with cue words pronounced by their correct ‘on’ and ‘kun’ readings. Try to use the proper Japanese pronunciations, it may sound odd as a result, but at least it should help you to remember.
